How to get to Sitges (once in Barcelona / Spain)

Updated: Jan 8

If you are already in Barcelona or nearby and you want to get to our Retreat Home in Sitges, this is your post. If you are still thinking how to reach Spain or Barcelona, check this other post (click here). The journey from Barcelona to Stiges can be a very pleasant and beautiful experience, so that way you will arrive to our acroyoga retreat or beach yoga studio already with a smile and ready to fly!

One of the most favourite option chosen by tourist is the rent a car. Spain has several rent a car companies operating through all the country. From the more international ones (Europcar, AVIS, Budget...), low cost (OK rent a car...) and national ones. This option will not only give you the possibility to arrive fast and convenient to our retreat place, but as well the possibility to move totally free around the country and visit more places not so easy to access with other transport methods, as for example remote and virgin beaches or the natural parc "Garraf" and the Buddhist temple Sakya Tashi Ling (45 minutes drive from Sitges).

If you decide to come by car to us from Barcelona, you have tow options:

  • C-32: you have to pay tolls (approx.. 7 euros) and it will take you around 20-30 minutes.

  • C-31: you do not have to pay tolls at this highway, but or moreover you can also enjoy a much nicer coastal road. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes.

Once in Sitges, look for the Hotel Melià Sitges, click here for Google Maps location. Once there, we are located just on the other side of the main entrance to the hotel. Around our yoga retreat home is free to park on the street, besides of being a safe and quiet area. Usually is enough space to park, just in the hig season or during busy weekends could take you a bit longer.

Probably the most chosen options is the train, very convenient and good quality price relation. The are many options from Barcelona stations: Sants (very big station), Estació de França (near Born and Barceloneta) or even you could take it form the airport (just need to do a stop in El Prat train station). The train goes goes every 20 minutes and the timetable can be found at the website of Renfe (click here). The trip takes about 30 to 40 minutes depending in which station are you starting your trip. Tickets can be bought directly at the counter in the station or online. Your final destination is Sitges station, and from there you have just a nice walk to the different places in Sitges. If you are joining us for a retreat, let us know and we will organise the pick up to this station. To explore more budget-friendly routes within the Spanish train system, you may want to consider checking Trainline (click here).

Another option is to take a taxi, depending in which area from Barcelona are you taking it, it will cost you between 80 to 100 euros. A cheaper alternative is Cabify, similar to Uber (this one is not working in Barcelona area), and in that case the prices range between 35 and 50 euros. Both options will take the same travel duration. In case of Cabify, you just need to download the app (click here) and register with the usual information as any other app: phone verification, etc. IMPORTANT: in both options, if you are taking the highway, the tolls should be included in your final invoice / payment, do not pay anything during the travel with cash or credit card to the driver.

If you are coming from the airport to Sitges, one of the best options is the bus that goes directly to Sitges (even faster than the train, since you do not need to change stops and it goes directly though the highway). The bus company is called "Bus Garraf), link here. You can buy in advance the ticket online, just click on "Aeroport Barcelona" and final stop "Sitges". Once in Sitges, we will pick you up if you are coming for a retreat. Total drive is around 25 to 30 minutes, and the bus fare is 4,50€ if you buy both ways. In the airport terminal 1 you just need to find the bus stations stop near the taxi stop. If you are in terminal 2, you will have to change to terminal 1 with the shuttle bus within both terminals.

Last but not least, car sharing is a trend as well in Spain as many other countries in the world. Here the best option would be BlaBlaCar (clik here), where you could share the ride of someone else. For Barcelona-Sitges trips, probably you will not find many cars, it is meant for longer distances, but it is worth to give it a try!
