There are many places worth it to visit around Barcelona, we picked the ones that are easy to reach in one day. Even after your Sunrise Yoga, Beach Yoga or AcroYoga class on Barceloneta Beach. So that you fill your day of outdoor experiences! Enjoy them :)
Following places are listed by our own personal ranking. Anyway all of them are incredible places depending on what you are looking for or the time of the year. All of them are reachable in 1 hour, we listed different transportations depending on the destination. We included a bit of every kind of destinations: beach, mountain, city, museums... Let's start!
SITGES: number one to visit. It is a seaside town in the south of Barcelona. It is our favourite spot when we want to go out of Barcelona city for some hours and relaxed in a town near a beach. There are a dozen of beaches reachable by foot. The old town is located right on the sea and have some interesting museums. As well Sitges is well-known for its homosexual community and during Carnaval (usually February) the town itself is a huge party area.
How to reach Sitges: approx 36 km. south from Barcelona. Best way to get there by train from Plaza España / Sants, the trains leave every 30 minutes and it takes no more than 40 minutes.
MONTSERRAT: these is the place we choose to go when we need forest and mountains. A massive group of mountains with even a more impressive structure, once you are on the top the pictures would look amazing. These rocks look just like something from another world. Avoid to go during summertime, it could be to warm for a hike. The rest of the year should be completely fine.
How to reach Montserrat: approx 50 km. northwest from Barcelona. Best way to get there again is by train from Plaza España / Sants, the trains leave every 30 minutes and it takes 1 hour to the town under the mountain (Monistrol de Montserrat). Once there, in the same station you will find a cog railway to the Monastery (also reachable by car) and from here you can walk to the top or different walking path or take a cable car higher up.
COSTA BRAVA: probably one of the most beautiful coast in Spain. It is actually located in Girona province, it starts jus with the border with France until Blanes. It is much more than 1-day travel, you could spend an entire holiday discovering all the incredible beaches. Anyway if you have at least one day, you can visit the nearest towns and beaches that are approx 1 hour from Barcelona. Some of the most beautiful towns parts of the Costa Brava: Tossa de Mar, Pals, Cadaqués, Callella de Palafrugell, L'Escala, Roses... and some of the most beautiful "calas" / beaches: Illa Roja, Cala Estreta, Cala Rustella, Cala de Aiguablava, Cala de Aigua-Xelida, Cala del Senyor Ramon...
How to reach Costa Brava: probably the only recommended way to reach it would be by car. It is the easiest way to visit different beaches out of the town during the same day. Public transport would be only to get to the bigger cities. By car until the first town/beaches (Blanes) tales 1 hour drive, approx 75 km.
GIRONA: it could be the number one, but since it is city, we preferred to rank higher the nature and outdoor experiences. Even though it is has a marvelllous old town with: stunning cathedral, Benedectine monastery, Arab baths, Jewish museum... Many of these places were used to film Game of Thrones (naming one of our Yogitos AcroYoga Level I poses).
How to reach Girona: approx 120 km. north from Barcelona. By car could be a good option if you are more a group of persons, there are some expensive tolls, but it is the way to get there in a bit more than one hour. The are two train: one is with the AVE (speed railjet) more expensive but it takes only 40 minutes or second option, with a slower train and/or bus that it can take up to 90 minutes.
We hope you enjoy all this destinations as much as we do! If you have any questions, please write in the comments down below! Or if you discover other 1-Day trips from Barcelona, we are more than happy to include them in our post!
